Priya and Vishesh, Buena Vista Resort, Jaipur
Overflowing with colorful hues, this couple’s carnival-themed mehndi was a bright sunlit affair that included Bangle Makers, Punjabi Boliyan, and Tarot Readings.
Priya and Vishesh attended the same university but didn’t actually meet there first. Instead the universe conspired for them to meet at a mutual friend’s birthday party where Priya found Vishesh cute but still stayed bashful. However, nothing could quite stop this duo from running into each other again, and as one meeting transitioned into another, they quickly started dating and plunged headlong into love. After a romantic proposal with the Toronto skyline serving as a stunning backdrop, the couple finally decided to embark on a new journey that would last a lifetime. Capturing their tender and fun filled nuptials were WeddingSutra Favorite – Dipak Studios, who, with each shot captured a plethora of raw emotions. Inspiring awe with their creative decor and superior planning skills was WeddingSutra Favorite – Fiestro Events who with pinpoint accuracy and ingenuity bought the duo’s vision to life.
How They Met
“By background, we’re both electrical engineers and we even attended the same university in Toronto. Even though he was my senior there, we never quite crossed paths in the university. So, our meeting happened quite simply at a mutual friend’s birthday party where I found him cute from the first glance itself but chose to stay reserved about my feelings. Slowly, we started running into each other frequently and got talking. One thing led to another and we had our first date. From then on, I knew that he was the one for me.”, shares Priya.
The Proposal
A sweet surprise proposal ensued which left Priya speechless. The happy bride shares, “One evening we went for a walk on the lakeshore in Toronto, and he took me to a spot from where one can see the entire skyline. Suddenly the place was lit up by candles and the song ‘Marry You’ by Bruno Mars started playing as he got down on one knee. As soon as he slipped a ring on my finger, fireworks lit up the sky and my family rushed out to greet me! It was, by far, the best evening of my life.”
Wedding Venue
“Scouting for a wedding venue was not an easy task for us as we’re both based in Toronto. From Jaipur, Udaipur, Kerala to the hills, every location was considered. Since his family is part Gujarati and Rajasthani and mine is 100% Punjabi, we thought Jaipur would be a nice middle-ground for both our families. Also, notably, the city itself is breathtaking.
Since we knew that we would be having guests over from Canada who’ve never been to India, we wanted to make it extra special for them. And, thankfully, since my mom and dad are based in India, they were able to manage many trips to and fro during the planning stages. Finally, we decided upon Buena Vista Resort for its open spaces, proximity to the airport, and its serenity. Also, the resort provides individual villas to each guest with impeccable hospitality. The staff was also warm, friendly, and welcoming.”, shares Priya.
Wedding Planning
Acknowledging the mammoth task of planning a destination wedding, the couple chose to rely on the most popular names in the industry. On the photography front, Dipak Studios amazed the duo with their dedication, hard work, and skill behind the lenses. Each picture was worth a thousand words as the couple reveled in the celebrations and made memories that would last a lifetime.
For the planning and decor, Fiestro Events led at the helm and orchestrated a wedding that left many of the guests who were attending an Indian wedding for the first time in awe. With seamless planning and tasteful decor choices that matched the couple’s vision, each function was a smashing success. Adding to the team was makeup artist Ridhi Verma giving the bride one stunning look after the other.
Weddings Functions
Mehndi
Priya shares, “The mehndi was a morning event replete with dance, food, and music. Since I wanted the event to be as colorful as possible, we had colorful tents that popped brightly against the lush lawn. The guests also had plenty of entertainment in store for them with bangle makers, tarot card readers, and Punjabi boliyan that were sung by my maternal grandmother. Vishesh and I made a smashing entry to the tunes of ‘Suraj Ki Bahon Mein’ along with our family members surrounded by smoke bombs.”
Sangeet and After Party
“For the sangeet, my sister took on the major responsibilities and ensured that no one missed a beat! Each performance was conceptualized by her and she did an amazing job in depicting our story via a ‘boys v/s girls’ dance performance. It was a stunning display where all my family members performed, including my dad who surprised us with a wonderful performance. We also watched a special video which featured those who couldn’t make it to the wedding who sent their best wishes, but it was mainly the wishes from my grandparents that had me in tears!”
Haldi and Sainth
Staying true to tradition, the Haldi, and Sainth followed a distinctly yellow color palette which was replete with delicate blooms and crystal hangings that shone brightly in the sun. Surrounded by family and friends, the couple enjoyed these laid-back ceremonies to the fullest as they got slathered in haldi and basked in joy. Twinning in white, the duo was all smiles as they shared friendly banter with their guests.
Wedding
“By the wedding night, a lot of my family members had lost their voice post the enthralling celebration we’d previously had! We also had a blast in the ‘joota chhupai’ tradition where my family didn’t just steal Vishesh’s shoes but also stole my brother and father-in-law’s shoes. In the end, none of the men could find their shoes and my cousins were enjoying the confusion to the fullest!”, shares Priya.
The bride looked radiant in her red and silver lehenga as she made her way down the aisle under the phoolon ki chaddar towards Vishesh who looked handsome in an off-white sherwani for the occasion.
Advice For Couples
“Take a moment to enjoy all the festivities and set aside the perfectionist in you. Everything works out smoothly in the end when you keep your gaze focused on the bigger picture.”, advises Priya.
